Eco-design: Making the planet greener

Green, sustainable or organic architecture could ensure a “brighter” and a “greener” future for the next generation. Terms like eco-design or eco-buildings are both vital and unknown to many of us. However, the truth is that eco-friendly architecture is a must-read topic.

To begin with, it is of great importance to examine the terms in greater detail.

What is eco-building?

According to the Cambridge Dictionary eco-building is the activity of making buildings that do not harm the environment.

What is green architecture?

According to the Cambridge Dictionary green architecture is the activity of designing buildings in a way that protects the natural environment, for example by using green energy (= energy produced by wind, water, or the sun).

What is organic architecture?

Organic architecture refers to designing and building structures and spaces that are balanced with their natural surroundings and tailored to the function they serve for their inhabitants. In general, organically designed structures seem to meld with the landscape or rise from it as if the surrounding spaces gave birth to them.

Benefits of eco-design

There are many advantages of living in a “green” house.

• Firstly, eco-friendly construction provides better health. Not only are people to live in an innovative house, but also in a non toxic environment. The use of materials that do not release toxic substances ensures safety.
• Moreover, green building allows for the use of alternative sources of water. As a result, water is not wasted and sometimes it can also be recycled.
• Designers of green buildings try as much as possible to reduce dependency on energy from non-renewable source. Energy efficiency is worth-mentioning, isn’t it?

And yet, there are far more pros. I decided to include only 3, just to give you an idea of how valuable it is. The main goal is to achieve to have more and more ecological benefits. Personally, I believe that designers have already succeed in that field. Energy, water, waste reduction are provided. The problem is that humans are not aware of ecological construction.

On the whole, sustainable and green architecture do not only reduce the environmental footprint but they also provide a myriad of benefits with regards to economics, productivity and enhanced public relations.
