The creation of Adam-Michelangelo
The Creation of Adam
The Creation of Adam is without doubt an iconic part of the Sistine Chapel. It portrays Adam in a relaxed posture on the left side of the painting. The figure is receiving life by God’s touch. There are some angels around God. However, these angels do not have wings. God is a clear figure in the picture, he is an elder with grey hair.
The reason I like this painting
The significance about this painting is that God gives life to Adam from one finger, across the gap, into the other finger. That captures the close relationship between humans and God. It is a father-son relationship. I truly admire how Michelangelo managed to outline this idea through the finger detail. When I see the above painting, I feel peaceful and safe.
About the artist
One of the most creative artists of the Italian Renaissance, Michelangelo produced many different styles of art, included painting, architecture, sculpture and poetry. He was born in Caprese on 6 March 1475. Best-known for his “Pieta” and his work on the Sistine Chapel, Michelangelo had a great influence in the world of art. His interest about painting was early spotted by his father. During his lifetime he strives for perfection. Unfortunately, he died in Rome on 18 February 1564.
